VIRGINIA BARNYARD GARDEN AT THE ZOO:
A demonstration organic garden project at the Virginia Zoological Park. The vegetables and plants grow year-round. NMGVs explain the concept of heirloom seeds and plants to everyday visitors to the Zoo.
Our project co-leader Gill Gillespie was awarded Volunteer of the Year 2005 for the Horticulture Department by the Virginia Zoo for all his efforts on this project, Click Here to read about his achievement.

Margene Swift received the "Art U Zooriffic" award for Horticulture Volunteer of the Year 2006 for her work at the NMGV Barnyard Garden at the Zoo. Frances the fox, her tail and paws dipped in bright colors, painted the award: a framed piece of artwork titled “Foxy Lady.
"Her knowledge of horticulture and her sparkling personality make her a true asset to the horticulture department," Allyson Whalley, horticulture technician at the Zoo, wrote in nominating Margene for the award.
"The children love her veggie tales and the animals just love her veggies."
